Hayz

Another of 1Forty’s local finds in its home of Leeds is Hayz. Whilst Leeds has had a Grime scene that has been quietly bubbling away for a few years on the MC front, there has been very few 140 producers come through. Hayz is hellbent on changing that now he is sat on the music ready to release. Taking a couple of years or so to find his signature sound 1Forty presented his debut release entitled ‘Hightop’ as part of 1FGRM004. Now the ball is rolling we can expect to hear not just these instrumentals perfectly suited for live grime sets, but he also enjoys making more stand alone Grime influenced Dubstep tracks taking influence from old Plastician work.

Hayz has been on the 1Forty radar for some time as he initially came through as an upcoming DJ on the Leeds circuit. Whilst being a strong tastemaker for Grime he also conveniently mixes up Funky and other underground UK Bass music in his sets making him the perfect addition to 1Forty’s reliant list of DJs. Having a number of 1Forty Takeovers and affiliated shows in 2018 and 2019 including Shy FX NYE at The Warehouse, Holy Goof Globes Tour at Church and 1Forty x Krudd at Wire this lead him to be picked up by Detonate to open up the o2 Academy in his home city for the first time in June 2019. Now with bringing his production to the table you can expect to see his name a lot more frequently.
