It may come as no surprise after hearing J.Kong’s discography that the 19 year old has a strong musical background. Tutored in classical music at a young age, studying musical theory and playing in a number of orchestras and jazz bands. His interest in underground culture in recent years inspired him to take that musical knowledge and apply it to production at the age of 15. Through his move to North London, his immersion in the capitals rich musical culture has increased tenfold.
Moving forward to the time running up to his debut 1Forty release, he had landed on the Labels radar through his releases from Saucy Music, Ali McK’s Articulate and In:Flux Audio all of which varied across the Bass, Grime & Dubstep spectrum. His In:Flux Audio release was his debut EP ‘Nonsense’ in November 2018 which charted at #4 on Juno, which also had a remix from 1Forty’s J69.
When the 4 Weeks of 1Forty project came around its focus was to shine the spotlight on upcoming artists providing a platform to raise awareness of their original and unique sound. There was a track for each Genre 1Forty represents - Grime, Bass, Funky & Garage. J.Kong’s track Ft Lavz entitled ‘Cut That’ was signed and was the first to drop as per the order of the Genre Release cycle.
