Manchester has bred some of the UKs most important figures in underground culture over the past twenty years. One who features on that list is Slay. Flying the flag for Grime in the North since the pirate radio era in the early 2000s his output was critical to laying the foundations for future Manchester artists and is still ever present in 2019. From contributing music videos when the first visuals in the Grime scene started hitting TV screens via Channel AKA (formally Channel U) to featuring on Red Bull’s Grime-A-Side in 2016, right up to his most recent JDZ Media freestyle, everything Slay does resonates with Grime culture at its rawest form which has been recognised by the Godfather of Grime himself Wiley, President T, Manga and fellow 1Forty artist Killa P.
Whilst self releasing a lot of his music, he’s had success with releases on the Labels of close friends and fellow Manchester royalty - Chimpo’s Box N Lock and Zed’s Biasonic. Certainly no stranger to shows at some of Manchester’s best venues such as The Warehouse Project and Hidden, he’s also well travelled having tore down Outlook Festival in 2017 and 2019 as well as shows across Prague, Romania, Poland and more recently his biggest highlight to date embarking on a 6 date tour with Chimpo across Canada earlier this Summer. ‘Dance Dun’ got his first Complex UK Premier under his belt and long time supporter DJ Target supplied the release day coverage on his 1Xtra show.
